Faculty Senate Minutes

 

 April 30, 2007 SECOND SESSION (Approved on September 10, 2007)

 

The Faculty Senate meeting was called to order by Chair Marking at 6:05 pm in the William Strickland Conference Room in I.G. Greer on Monday, April 30, 2007.  Senators Carpenter, Davison, Lambert, Mines, Mitchem, Tiller, and Wayne Williams were not in attendance.

             

Chair Marking opened the floor for nominations for Faculty Senate Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary.  Chair Marking reported that Senators McBride and Marland were nominated for Vice Chair and Senators Scherlen and Betsy Williams were nominated for Secretary during the first session of April 30, 2007 Faculty Senate meeting.  Senator Strazicich nominated Senator Butts for Chair and he declined the nomination.  Senator Malloy nominated Senator Rardin for Chair but he declined.  There were no other nominations for Chair, Vice Chair, or Secretary during the second session.  Chair Marking requested a motion to close the floor for nominations.  Senator Malloy moved and Senator Mamlin seconded.  (See Vote #1).  Chair Marking asked the nominees for Vice Chair to exit the conference room so that the remaining Senators could discuss their candidacy.  The nominees were asked to return to the conference room after this discussion ended.  Chair Marking asked the nominees for Secretary to exit the conference room so that the remaining Senators could discuss their candidacy.  The nominees were asked to return to the conference room after this discussion ended. 

 

Chair Marking asked Senators to indicate their votes on the election ballot.  Office Assistant, Ms. Loretta Link, and Faculty Senate Secretary, Senator Harris, counted the votes in the Faculty Senate office.  Senator Harris reported the results to the Faculty Senate.  The newly elected 2007-2008 Faculty Senate Executive Board members are:  Chair Marking, Vice Chair Marland, and Secretary Scherlen.  Chair Marking stated if any Senator is interested in being appointed Faculty Senate Parliamentarian to let her know as soon as possible. 

 

Senator Rardin inquired about the status of a motion that was passed by the Faculty Senate several years ago.  He indicated that the question “Did you serve on the Faculty Senate?” was to be included on the annual review form as a result of the Senate’s action.  Senator Rardin stated that the Faculty Senate has not yet received feedback on this item.  Chair Marking replied that she will ask the Provost for an update.

 

Senator McBride moved to adjourn the meeting and Senator Mamlin seconded.  Motion passed.  (See Vote #2).  The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 pm.
